Byron - GOD FORBID par VSGREG - 5232 lectures
Une des valeures sures du NWOAHM soirt un nouvel album, penchons nous sur ce sujet ...

You said that "Gone Forever is a huge step forward for God Forbid" when the cd was released. What are you thinking about it today ?
I think today it was a huge step for the band and has shown the direction in which we intended to take with this the new album IV Constitution of Treason. It is definitely a great album and unlike most bands it has proven that we are fully capable of stepping up to the plate and topping ourselves again. lol.

What are the elements you improved or changed between "IV:Constitution of Treason" and " Gone Forever" ?
Well we have definitely improved our live show and we as musicians have become more froficient at our instruments, not to mention trying to take our music to another level of intensity and drive. Over all I think with this record we have shown that we are still a driving force in the metal scene and we are open to evolving as a band and musicians and are willing to go the extra mile for the fans as well as ourselves.

You said that Opeth influenced a lot "Gone Forever". Which band influenced the writings of the new cd ?
I think that most of the influence for this CD came from being on the road with bands like Machine Head, Slipknot, Slayer,Lamb of God and of course playing the OZZFEST. More importantly though I think my band is our biggest influence when came to writing this record, bec ause it was more about proving something to ourselves and knowing that this is still the opening stages of a band who is unrelentless in its pursuits of its goals.

"IV:Constitution of Treason" is said to be a "socially and politically charged vision of a post-apocalyptic world". Is it a concept album ? can you tell us more about it ?
Yes this is a concept record in that fact, but it didnt start out that way. It kinda just fell into place between the music and the lyrics. The idea of the album was to be thought provoking and to let people be aware of what is going on around them and to see things for more than what face value may tell you. Its summed up as this the continuing battle of good versus evil, lol. That sounds so cliche, but its meant to be listened to and the listener to make up his or her mind about it. Just plain old good music.

God Forbid will take part to the "Fury of The Fall" tour in the USA with Meshuggah, The Haunted and Mnemic. How dod you feel beeing the only american band on this tour ? What are you thinking about the other bands last releases ?
I fell honored to be on the bill with bands that have influenced us over the years and have had the balls to be different and look toward themselves for their own creativity. It couldn't happen to a better band, we intend to go out and show everyone what we are about and that we deserve to be here and there is nothing or knowone that can stop us. These bands have always has amazing releases so it came as no surprise that their new records sound amazing. I mean look at them they are all extremely talented and hard working musicians with vision.

You will then tour in Europe with The Haunted again. Are you excited to tour in Europe again ? What memories do yoyu have from your tour with MACHINE HEAD ? How were the crowds compared to America?
Yes we are very excited to be returning to Europe we have an amazing time over there. The memories i have of touring with Macchine Head is the length of time we spent overseas 10 weeks, playiing shows niether everyday. It was a long time away from home, going to places I never thought I would see and realizing that metal really does transcend differents cultures. People from all over the world together in one place For The Love Of music, how cool is that? I would have to say that we are living in amazing times and to know that people on the other side of the world know of God Forbid is just awesome. We look forward to returning there and ripping it up once again. Whoa a fuckin party. We Love It!!!!

You've toured with a lot of metal and hardcore bands. Do you prefer playing in front of an hardcore crowds or metal crowds ?
No I have no preference to a scene, it is what you make it. When we play shows I dont concern myself with what the crowd I am playing to only that everyone there is having a good time, that is my job that is what i do I am there to entertain you and ensure that you are getting your hard earned dolloars worth. The word scene is for those who have no idea how to label music, fuck it there should be to labels for music GOOD or SHIT. So if your reading this come on out to the show and lets get the party started. Time to cut up and have some fun.

Is it easy to be in a band with his brother for so many years ?
No its not, but it does make for interesting adventures, theyre are always issues but at the end of the day they still both love each other. I think though it makes for a creative atmosphere and the vibe they create feeding off each other is amazing. When you are in a band for as long as we have been we all become family and we try to help each other out as much as possible. The road can be a hard place, so you learn to be there for each other and make the best of any situation. My band is awesome.

Are you afraid that something similar as the "Cavalera family split" occurs with the "Doyle familiy" ?
No I dont want to think about things like that, nor can I speculate on their situation. Know one really knows what happened except for them and its really none of my business. People need to stop focusing on the negative and try to make the best of what they have in front of them sometimes. I dont think that the Coyle brothers will have that problem nor can I say that they will. We will just take it day by day and see what transpires.

Did you ever heard about a french metal band ? What are your immediate feeling when you're thinking about France ?
Yes I have a friend named Reggie who is in a french metal band unfortunately, the name of his band right now escpaes me, but I know he is doing well I run across him from time to time. The only thing really that comes to mind right now about France is the wine, cheese and the women. I would like to go to Paris one day and see the Eifel Tower that would be awesome. I think though the language barrier might make it kinda hard, but I am willing to work on it, if you are lol.

What are the cds you're listening to recently ?
Well really I couldnt tell you, here in the land of excess I hace a 200 disc cd changer and a 60gb ipod which I have tons of music on. I usually just turn on the cd play or my pod and press random and whatever comes on gets love. I am not really into saying this is what I listen to right now, I just let it happen and if it his a selection I like well then I take it off random and listen to the whole album. Thats how I do things lol.
