Jens - DEADSOIL par VSGREG - 1811 lectures
Enorme baffede la rentree avec le surpuissant "the venom Divine", veritable bombe entre metal et hardcore !

Could we first talk about Night in Gales, Is the band still alive ? what's going on with the rest of the band members who are not involved in Deadsoil ?
First of all people should know that Deadsoil is not a side-projekt or a typical ''follow-up-thing'' of Night in Gales. It was Chris, who left NIG some years ago to start something different with Boris and Stefan. The idea was to get Metal and HC closer together. The former guys of Deadsoil are involved in the HC scene for more than a decade. The former line-up was different from the actual on ''the venom divine''. We got a great new singer and as Jan quit, they phoned me to join the band. That was right before the studio sessions for ''The venom divine'' in April. So it´s only Chris and me from the NIG-clan in Deadsoil. NIG still exists. We got a new drummer (Adriano Ricci), and we just sent out a couple of promo CDs with 4 amazing new tracks. It´s more in the Nailwork/Thunderbeast style and that works pretty good again. There's no company interested so far, so just call me, dudes!!

What memories will you keep about your years in Night in gales ? What did you have the need to change from a classic thrash metal band to a more metalcore band like Deadsoil ?
It was some of the best years of my life, especially all the nice touring including Japan, festivals and stuff. I think NIG was more a typical Melodic Death outfit, covering different metal styles on the later albums.
I did the main songwriting part in NIG, but I didn`t write for Deadsoil so far. So I didn't have to change anything. I knew the material on the ''Forever the Enemy'' MCD as I did the clicktrack in advance to the studio, so I had just to exercise the material.

For those who still don't know DEADSOIL, would you be nice enough to introduce your band ...
Deadsoil got together in 2002 when Chris left Night In Gales and Boris quit Copykill and they both decided to start something new. Stefan joined on bass and later on Friedrich on vocals and me on second guitar. Before I joined they already released a MCD called ''Forever The Enemy'' on Poisonfree.com Records that got later released through Tribunal Records for the USA. They already played tons of shows and smaller tours with a lot of awesome bands before we started to write the new material for ''The Venom Divine'' and signed a worldwide deal with Lifeforce Records. The record is gonna be out late august 2004 and we'll kick it off from there, starting with a tour with Hatesphere and Born From Pain.

Who would you classify as your band 's influences, both musically and lyrically?
It´s different for all the members, but we all like acts like The Haunted, Slayer, Hatebreed, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage and At the Gates.

Which bands would you compare the band with?
I think though we are part of a large upcoming Metalcore movement, we sound different to the mainstream. It`s not kinda typical european-sounding style but more a mixture with US-flavour. I was wondering, if Deadsoil wouldn`t be OK for Haunted/In Flames or even Pantera and Slipknot freaks. It`s just rough and heavy Metalcore with and really catchy songs without loosing the technical approach.

You have just signed the contract with Lifeforce. What you can say more about this factory, co-operation with them & about their support?
It´s nice to work with the Lifeforce people as there's not that often unuseful barrier between label and musician. The label did fantastic work for bands like Caliban or Heaven Shall Burn, who all signed to bigger companies now. ''The venom Divine'' reached fantastic reviews so far, maybe we get the chance to do a video for ''History Retold'', so we're satisfied with the current situation.

Your brand new cd "The Venom Divine" will be released soon. Can you tell us more about it, the recordings sessions, the songs etc ?
We recorded in Berno Studios, Malmo in Sweden, as we knew its high standard from The Haunted and Amon Amarth records. It was a nice trip and we all had some funny days over there. The record contains nine great and original tracks in the european version, there`s one more on the japanese edition. The recordings turned out well as we did some pre-production at home before. The Deadsoil style shows more variation this time: We got typical Metalcore slow-mo violence in ''Enemies will suffer'', same as Neo-thrashing Neckbreakers like ''Hate''. ''Grey cube'' for sure is the sickest and darkest Deadsoil output so far and most of the tracks, especially ''Despise the Logic'' and ''The Promise'' are real heavy groovemonsters.

Is any members of the band involved in other projects/bands?
Friedrich is also playing guitar in ''Since the day''. It`s Boris who is doing the bass in ''Caliban'', right now they are touring the USA. I am still involved in ''Night in Gales''. And one thing is fore sure: Deadsoil is a main band for us, we put a lot of energy in, nothing like a project or stuff.

Which cds do you consider as being cult or must have for you ?
At the Gates – terminal spirit disease, Swarrrm/Bloodred Bacteria Split-CD, Godz at War – postmortem.

A few words for our french readers
We hope to rock France soon. Try to get the new record, out august the 30th! It´s never with – only against us, forever the enemy!
