Esa (Amorphis - Guitare) et Oppu (ex-Amorphis - Basse) - CHAOSBREED par VSGREG - 3372 lectures
Chaosbreed est le super groupe finlandais rassemblant des membres de Amorphis, Gandalf, Mannhai, Moonsorrow, Sentenced et The Black League pour proposer un death metal old school brutal sans concession.

For those who still don't know CHAOSBREED, would you be nice enough to introduce your band with a short history ?
Oppu : CHAOSBREED was formed in 2002 after we did a charity-show in a memory if Chuck Schuldiner, playing only DEATH covers. We had been talking about it for years with our drummer Nalle, and now the time was right for everyone.
Esa : Nalle, Oppu and Marko formed this band and as I've been talking with Oppu forming a death-metal band long ago they called me and Taneli to ask if we would like to join them and told that the thing is to start to do scandinavian DM in the vein of early 90's.

How did members from Amorphis, Gandalf, Mannhai, Moonsorrow, Sentenced and The Black League decide to create a new band together ? Were you friends ? How did you get the idea to start this 'Death Metal' project´ in the very first place?
Oppu : Yeah, we were long-time friends even before CHAOSBREED, me and Esa from AMORPHIS, Nalle from another project called SININEN HEVONEN. Taneli and Marko we just knew, as we know everybody from finnish metalbands. There's pretty small circles in the music scene in Finland after all you know? Why we started? Well, this is what we all did when we started playing in the first place. Now it feels like coming home again!
Esa : I quess it started as a passion for old school death metal and we've been friends for a long time. I'm a good friend of Oppu and shared great years with him in Amorphis.

A few year ago, some famous swedish guys (from Edge of sanity, Opeth and Katatonia) formed a similar death metal project named Bloodbath. Did you listen to their releases ? Do you think there is an old school death metal revival ?
Oppu : Yes, it seems like there's some kind of nostalgic deathmetal boom going on, as people who played it as teenagers has their 30-year crisis and youngsters has found this great genre again. I downloaded few BLOODBATH-tracks just to know what it's like, and I liked it for sure. But to be honest, I really don't follow what's going on in metal-world nowdays. OPETH is one of my fauvorite bands, though.
Esa : I received Bloodpath album from Century Media, it's a great piece of death metal made by great guys. They've been succeed getting old vibes back.

Your brand new cd "Brutal" will be release shortly. Can you tell us more about it, the recordings sessions, the songs etc ?
Oppu : We recorded and mixed BRUTAL in five days in CCPC studios, owned by Niclas and Santeri from AMORPHIS. Firstly, we were supposed to do it in Sunlight studios with Tomas Skogsberg. We had the studio booked already, but then Tomas faded and we had to skip the idea of working with him. Too bad, ''cause he's the guy who created scandinavian death metal sound early 90's.
What can I say about the songs? They are just traditional crushing death metal in it's finest!
Esa : The recording session went really smoothly, we recorded and mixed the album at CCPC studio which is owned by my Amorphis pals Niclas and Santeri. They also co-produced the shit with us. Songs for this album came pretty much from all members and we had a great time with "composing" them.

What are the things you improve between your previous EP and the new one ? What are the main differences between this new cd and the EP ?
Oppu : The main difference is the production. There's no improvement in music and will never be, hahhah!!
Esa : The EP was totally shit recording, I don't even understand why anyone wanted to release it. Perhaps it underground. It was ment to be rough demo and we recorded it in some hellhole here in Helsinki which name I can't even remember anymore. The album is done within the idea that it can stand daylight.

Will Chaosbreed do some tour in Europe in the future, or is Chaosbreed only a studio project ?
Oppu : I hope we will tour Europe as soon as possible. And we will certainly come to France as well!!
Esa : There's a plan to do festivals during summer and tour as well, we are not studio project and I hate the word project anyway. I consider Chaosbreed as another band.

What is the meaning of your band name 'Chaosbreed'. Is this name coming from a Entombed's song ?
Oppu : I guess it's just a name, piced up from Nalle's list of suggestions. As ENTOMBED is one of our main influences, I think it's ok to steal the name from them!
Esa : Yes, it comes because we are totally Entombed and Dismember rip-off!!

Which bands would you compare CHAOSBREED with?
Oppu : DISMEMBER, ENTOMBED, CARNAGE, AUTOPSY, GRAVE, etc. Also some infuences from MORBID ANGEL, CARCASS, DEATH…
Esa : Entombed and Exploited!

Which death metal cds do you consider as being cult or must have for you ?
Oppu : Left Hand Path, Wolverine Blues, Symphonies of Sickness, Severed Survival, Mental Funeral, Leprosy, Altars of Madness, etc, etc….
Esa : Morbid Angel: Altars of Madness, Entombed: Left Hand Path, Carcass: Symphonies Of Sickness and Napalm Death: FETO

What is, in your opinion, the best metal album released this year ?
Esa : So far, I guess new In Flames.
Oppu : This year? This is hard question… I heard couple songs from DISMEMBER's new and it sounded very promising I have to say!

11. Did you ever heard a metal Band from France ? What do you think about the french scene (labels/bands etc)?
Oppu : I'm sorry, as I said I haven't been following the scene that much so I cannot say I'd know that many French bands.
Esa : Yes, I remeber one band called Massacra (?) or something like that and of course Treponem Pal but I don't know if they are heavy. Johnny Hallyday? I know Herve and his Osmose label.

Last words are yours ....
Oppu : Buy BRUTAL and come see the gigs. We will shred your heads off!!!
Esa : Beware of the shitgrinders and respect my stamps. Cheers!
